The 13-round 2024 World Rally Championship calendar has been released and it features a return to Poland and a first-ever trip to Latvia.
The 2024 WRC calendar will include 13 nations on four continents, with the typical Monte Carlo start kicking off the season from January 25 to 28.
The calendar, which was approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council on Thursday, includes eight gravel rallies, four asphalt events, and the usual snow round in Sweden.
Mexico was replaced on the calendar by Poland, which announced its return to the World Rally Championship earlier this month after having been absent since 2017.
The WRC had originally planned that Saudi Arabia and the United States would host events next year, but both have been postponed until 2025 along with a potential return to Argentina.
Three weeks after Monte Carlo opener, Rally Sweden follows in cold weather before Rally Kenya is held in the hot and dusty continent of Africa from 28 to 31 March. Later in 18 to 21 April, the action will be on the tarmac in Croatia before switching to gravel for the Vodafone Rally Portugal from 9 to 12 May.
The Rally Sardegna comes before the much-welcomed return of the ORLEN 80th Rally Poland, which has incredibly quick gravel trails.
In the July slot previously taken by Estonia, Latvia has replaced the venue after moving up from the European Rally Championship to make its WRC debut. Rally Estonia was unable to get sponsorship in order to stay on the WRC schedule.
At the start of August, Secto Rally Finland will take centerstage. Beginning the first week of September, there will be a range of terrain for the EKO Acropolis Rally Greece, from quick, slick gravel roads to challenging, rocky stages.
The Chilean long-distance rally Bio Bió concludes September with the second running of the Central European Rally at the end of October before traveling to Japan for the FORUM8 Rally Japan in the third week of November.
“We’re eagerly anticipating another action-packed season in 2024 with a calendar that not only celebrates our esteemed traditions but also propels us into an exciting future,” said WRC Promoter managing director Jona Siebel.
“Our return to Poland and our debut in Latvia underscore our commitment to delivering a fresh and exciting WRC experience for fans and competitors alike.”
In a couple weeks, it’s anticipated that the European Rally Championship schedule will be officially released.
