Toyota returns to F1 after signing to become the official Haas technical partner effective immediately.
The Haas F1 team has officially announced a multi-year partnership with Toyota Gazoo Racing, marking the manufacturers return to the sport after a 15-year hiatus since its departure at the end of the 2009 season.
The new partnership aims to leverage the Japanese manufacturer’s extensive engineering expertise in the American marque’s existing infrastructure to boost its competitiveness in the sport.
The deal will run alongside the agreement with Ferrari, whom Haas have worked with since they entered the sport in 2016, having earlier this year extended their contract with the Italian team until 2028.
Under the terms of the new multi-year agreement, Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) will provide design, technical, and manufacturing services to Haas, which will in return offer technical expertise and commercial benefits.
Toyota Gazoo drivers, engineers and mechanics will be involved in Haas F1 tests – helping them all understand the challenges of modern grand prix machinery in a live environment.
Additionally, Toyota staff will assist Haas with aerodynamic development, as well as helping design and manufacture carbon fibre parts to be used by the race team.
Toyota Gazoo Racing branding will be visible on Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen’s Haas cars starting from next weekend’s United States Grand Prix in Austin.
“I’m hugely excited that MoneyGram Haas F1 Team and Toyota Gazoo Racing have come together to enter into this technical partnership,” team principal Ayao Komatsu said.
“To have a world leader in the automotive sector support and work alongside our organisation, while seeking to develop and accelerate their own technical and engineering expertise – it’s simply a partnership with obvious benefits on both sides.
“I’m naturally pleased that we’ve had the support of the likes of Formula 1 and our long-term partner, Scuderia Ferrari – who we announced our further continuation with earlier in the season, in the formation of this new technical partnership – designed to achieve continued success in our Formula 1 endeavours.”
President of Gazoo Racing Company, Tomoya Takahashi, added: “Everyone at MoneyGram Haas F1 Team is looking forward to the collaborative results of this new relationship, we can’t wait to get started and fulfil our combined ambitions.
“We are pleased to announce that MoneyGram Haas F1 Team and Toyota Gazoo Racing have concluded a basic agreement to enter a technical partnership such as Haas vehicle development.
“By competing alongside MoneyGram Haas F1 Team at the pinnacle of motorsports, we aim to cultivate drivers, engineers, and mechanics while strengthening the capabilities of MoneyGram Haas F1 Team and Toyota Gazoo Racing, and we desire to contribute to motorsports and the automotive industry.”
The timing of this partnership is particularly interesting given the upcoming 2026 F1 regulation changes. However, as Toyota returns to F1 it has made it clear that it does not plan to enter as a full works team or power unit supplier.
