Toprak Razgatlioglu’s return has been confirmed after medical checks declared him fit to race at the upcoming Aragon WorldSBK.
The announcement comes as a relief for the Turkish rider and the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team, after the World Superbike Championship leader was sidelined for some races to recover from a minor pneumothorax injury.
Razgatlioglu’s injury came after a crash during Free Practice 2 at Magny-Cours, where he suffered a mild pneumothorax—a condition characterized by air leaking into the space between the lung and chest wall, which can lead to lung collapse.
The unfortunate incident forced him to withdraw from subsequent races, including the Italian Round, and left him sidelined for nearly a month. Throughout the recovery period Razgatlioglu remained under close medical supervision in Austria, focusing on regaining his strength and fitness.
The announcement of his fitness was made on Thursday following medical checks ahead of this weekend’s Aragon WorldSBK.
The Turkish rider expressed his eagerness to return to the track, stating, “Finally! Yes, I’m fit, finally. After four more weeks, finally we come back. I’m really excited for tomorrow.”
However, Toprak Razgatlioglu’s return comes at a critical juncture in the season. Earlier in the year, he enjoyed an impressive 92-point lead in the championship standings. Unfortunately, his absence from racing allowed rival Nicolo Bulega of Aruba.it Racing – Ducati to significantly close that gap.
Bulega’s recent performances have been nothing short of stellar, with two wins and four podium finishes that have narrowed the points difference to just 13 points.
Thus, Razgatlioglu’s return is not merely about personal triumph; it is also about reclaiming his dominance in a fiercely competitive championship.
As he prepares for his first practice session at Aragon WorldSBK, he will undergo a reassessment following Free Practice 1 to ensure that he can compete without risking further injury.
