Max Verstappen secured a commanding pole position for the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix marking Red Bull’s 100th pole in history, placing the reigning world champion first on the starting grid.
The Dutchman delivered a remarkable performance at the Shanghai International Circuit as his final lap in qualifying clocked at 1:33.660, guaranteeing his top slot would remain unchallenged.
Meanwhile, his teammate Sergio Perez claimed the second spot, locking out a Red Bull front row for the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso laid out an outstanding performance by qualifying third in his Aston Martin ahead of the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took sixth.
Carlos Sainz will start seventh after bouncing back from an early spin in the second round that prompted a red flag. George Russell led Mercedes with an eighth-place finish, while Nico Hulkenberg of Haas and Valtteri Bottas of Sauber rounded out the top 10.
Lewis Hamilton’s unexpected setback left him further down the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix starting grid in 18th.
