Fabio Quartararo has experienced a very disappointing 2023 season and he has made some very specific demands to Yamaha ahead of 2024 MotoGP.
Fabio Quartararo has sent his team strong signals regarding his future with the Japanese manufacturer with just three race weekends remaining in the 2023 campaign.
This season, the 2021 World Champion was only able to land on the podium three times, marking the fewest podiums the Yamaha rider has scored in a single season since his promotion to MotoGP.
The Frenchman gave some direct remarks to the media following the Thai Grand Prix regarding the improvements that Yamaha needs to make for 2024 MotoGP campaign.
“I gave some really clear comments to Yamaha,” Quartararo said in Thai MotoGP. “Now, it’s in their hands to make that step next year.
“There are still three races remaining. Of course it’s important to make it in the next three races but we really have to focus for next year.
“Hopefully Yamaha can make a big step forward for next year.”
Although Quartararo has a contract for next season, it is obvious that he could choose to walk away from it after Marc Marquez and Jonathan Rea both tore up their 2024 contracts and made the switch to new manufacturers.
It is not the first time Quartataro has made demands to the Japanese manufacturer. Previously, he was dissatisfied with the Misano test and disclosed how he critiqued the team’s development in a major feedback meeting.
With his Yamaha contract that expires at the end of 2024, Quartararo will give the team a year to win over their star rider or he will leave.
The misfortunes behind Quartararo and Yamaha started halfway through their championship campaign last year which allowed Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia overcome a ninety-one-point deficit and eventually secure the title.
Yamaha has not only stumbled behind Ducati this year but has also fallen behind KTM and Aprilia.
