Peugeot TotalEnergies has officially unveiled its driver lineups for the 2025 FIA WEC, showcasing a blend of experience and youthful dynamism across its two Peugeot 9X8 Hypercars.
This announcement comes as anticipation builds for the upcoming season, which is set to feature an impressive array of 36 cars from 13 major manufacturers, making it a thrilling spectacle for motorsport enthusiasts and fans alike.
The 2025 season will see Peugeot TotalEnergies fielding two entries in the Hypercar category, with a strong focus on performance and teamwork.
The driver lineup for the No. 93 Peugeot 9X8 will consist of Jean-Eric Vergne, Mikkel Jensen, and Paul Di Resta. This trio brings a wealth of experience and skill to the team, with each driver having a proven track record in endurance racing.
Di Resta’s experience in both F1 and endurance racing provides invaluable insights into race strategy and car setup while Formula E champion Vergne leverages his extensive knowledge of high-pressure racing to boost the team’s performance.
Jensen, who has been a key player in the team since its return to endurance racing in 2022, is known for his speed and reliability and will be crucial in pushing the Peugeot 9X8 to its limits.
The No. 94 Peugeot TotalEnergies Hypercar will feature a mix of seasoned drivers and emerging talent with Loïc Duval, Stoffel Vandoorne, and Malthe Jakobsen.
Duval who has been a stalwart of the Peugeot TotalEnergies Racing team since its inception in WEC, brings invaluable experience and competitive edge to drive alongside Vandoorne, who brings experience from F1 and Formula E and has quickly adapted to the demands of endurance racing.
Jakobsen, at just 21 years old, is making his FIA WEC debut after a successful stint in the European Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Series. His inclusion reflects Peugeot’s commitment to nurturing young talent alongside established stars.
Meanwhile, 2023 Formula 2 champion Theo Pourchaire has taken over Jakobsen’s old role as reserve driver, and made his endurance test debut in the Peugeot 9X8 last month at Paul Ricard. That came after his first Hypercar drive in the WEC’s official post-season rookie test in Bahrain in November.
Peugeot Sport’s Technical Director Olivier Jansonnie highlights the importance of aligning the team’s 2025 FIA WEC drivers based on their setup preferences and driving styles. This meticulous approach is designed to ensure that both cars can achieve their full potential on the track.
“We have built our line-ups based on a precise balance between experience and dynamism,” said Jansonnie.
“Mikkel Jensen, Jean-Eric Vergne, and Paul di Resta, in car No. 93, bring strong cohesion, proven expertise, and great consistency, while Loic Duval, Stoffel Vandoorne, and Malthe Jakobsen, in car No. 94, combine the strategic vision of seasoned drivers with the energy and boldness of a promising young talent.
“Théo Pourchaire, who completed his first endurance tests in December, completes the 2025 FIA WEC line-up as test driver. We look forward to seeing these drivers give their best on the track and thrilling fans around the world.”
The upcoming season promises to be competitive, with Peugeot TotalEnergies facing off against rivals such as Toyota Gazoo Racing and Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA. The Hypercar category is expected to be particularly intense, featuring an impressive field of manufacturers vying for supremacy.
With twelve out of eighteen Hypercar crews confirmed for the season, fans can anticipate thrilling races filled with strategic battles and high-speed action.
Peugeot TotalEnergies has already started preparations for the 2025 FIA WEC season with developments including extensive testing at Lusail International Circuit in Qatar, where the opening round of the championship will be hosted.
