Formula 2 talent Paul Aron has signed a deal to serve as Alpine reserve driver for the 2025 F1 season.
This strategic move comes as part of Alpine’s broader initiative to cultivate young talent within the ever-evolving landscape of Formula 1.
At just 20 years old, Paul Aron has already made significant strides in his racing career, currently competing with Hitech Pulse-Eight in the Formula 2 championship where he has emerged as a strong contender for the title.
The Estonian driver’s journey in motorsport has been marked by impressive performances, including seven podium finishes this season, which places him fourth in the overall standings.
Aron’s performance includes four pole positions, with his most recent achievement being a dominant win at the Qatar feature race. The impressive track record not only places him among the top contenders in F2 but also underscores his readiness to take on a greater responsibility as Alpine reserve driver for 2025 F1.
Paul Aron’s journey to this pivotal moment has been shaped by his previous association with the Mercedes Junior Programme, which he left before embarking on his current F2 campaign.
Despite the transition, he has thrived independently demonstrating resilience and adaptability—qualities that are essential for success in the fast-paced world of Formula 1. His decision to compete without the backing of a major F1 team reflects his confidence and ambition to carve out his own path in motorsport.
The connection between Aron and Alpine is particularly noteworthy, given that Alpine Team Principal Oliver Oakes was instrumental in founding Hitech Grand Prix in 2015.
This relationship likely facilitated Aron’s transition into the Alpine reserve driver role, as Oakes is already familiar with his capabilities and potential as he transitions from a promising Formula 2 rookie to a key figure within an established F1 team.
Alpine’s executive advisor Flavio Briatore expressed enthusiasm about Aron’s addition to the team.
“We are very pleased to have Paul join as our Alpine Reserve Driver for 2025 F1 season,” Briatore is quoted on Alpine’s official website. “There is a generational shift in Formula 1 at the moment, as we see with many young drivers coming into the sport and making an impact.
“We believe Paul is one of the best talents and we look forward to developing him into an F1 driver.”
In his statement following the announcement, Paul Aron expressed his excitement on joining as Alpine Reserve Driver for the 2025 F1 season, acknowledging the importance of the opportunity for his career.
“It’s incredibly special to be joining BWT Alpine F1 Team,” said Aron. “It is clear that this is a great place to be for any young driver and I’m really pleased that Flavio [Briatore, executive advisor] and Oliver have given me this opportunity.
“Before 2025 F1 and the hard work that will come with being Alpine reserve driver, I have a championship to focus on for the remainder of this year and I will be giving it my all to compete for the title. I’m looking forward to really beginning the work and continuing my career pathway in motorsport.”

Paul Aron will take over the Alpine reserve driver role from Jack Doohan, who is set to secure a full-time race seat alongside Pierre Gasly for the 2025 F1 season following Esteban Ocon’s early exit to join Haas.
This change marks a significant shift within Alpine’s driver lineup as they continue to integrate fresh talent into their framework while ensuring continuity within their racing operations.
