New Cadillac F1 Team principal confirmed ahead of 2026 debut

General Motors (GM) has officially announced the appointment of Graeme Lowdon as the Cadillac F1 Team Principal ahead of 2026 F1 debut.

The announcement marks a pivotal moment for both the American automaker and the sport as it prepares to welcome its 11th team amid a new era focused on sustainability and technological innovation.

Lowdon’s extensive experience in the field positions him as an ideal candidate to hold the Cadillac F1 Team Principal role as the ambitious project aims to establish itself as a formidable presence on the F1 grid.

Graeme Lowdon brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as CEO of several F1 teams, including Virgin, Marussia, and Manor. His tenure in these positions provided him with invaluable insights into navigating the financial and competitive challenges faced by teams in F1’s midfield and backmarker sectors.

Furthermore, Lowdon’s involvement in transitioning Manor into the World Endurance Championship demonstrates his versatility and adaptability across different motorsport disciplines.

In his inaugural statement as the Cadillac F1 Team Principal, Graeme Lowdon expressed his enthusiasm for leading this new venture. He emphasized that Formula 1 is not just a sport but a collaborative effort that thrives on teamwork and shared passion.

“I’m truly honored to be appointed as the Team Principal of this exciting new team and I would like to thank everyone involved for placing their trust in me,” Lowdon said. “I believe that Formula 1 is the greatest team sport in the world, and teams are all about people.

“This is a team with a real love for, and desire to go, racing, and we have the experience and expertise to do just that. Racing is at the very heart of everything that we do. This is what I want to see in a team, and I really want to be part of it.

“I don’t underestimate the task ahead and I have the utmost respect for the competition. I look forward to the challenge of racing. In the meantime, our work continues at pace.”

The decision to appoint Lowdon as the Cadillac F1 Team Principal follows a comprehensive year-long preparation process led by TWG Global, the new entity overseeing the new team’s operations.

Under the leadership of CEO Dan Towriss, TWG Global has worked diligently to reshape the team’s vision and secure its entry into Formula 1.

The revised application submitted in collaboration with the FIA has paved the way for the Cadillac F1 Team to become the 11th team in the sport’s history, coinciding with a new regulatory era that emphasizes sustainability and electrification.

Both Towriss and Mark Reuss, President of General Motors have praised Graeme Lowdon’s qualifications and contributions over the past two years.

“Graeme has been advising our team for the last two years as we have built out our operations,“ Towriss said. “His experience on both the technical and managerial sides of Formula 1 and other motorsports ventures will serve him well as he takes on the new role as the Cadillac F1 Team Principal.

“Graeme has been a pleasure to work with over the past two years and we’re excited he will lead our journey to the 2026 F1 grid as Team Principal,” said General Motors President Mark Reuss.

“He has great racing expertise, he knows how to assemble a high-performing team and he embodies the values the Cadillac Formula 1 Team will represent in all its endeavors, on or off the track.”

As Cadillac prepares for its entry in 2026 F1, Lowdon faces the daunting task of building a competitive team from scratch. This involves not only developing technical infrastructure but also assembling a skilled workforce capable of competing at the highest level.

The next two years will be critical for the new team as it designs a competitive car and establishes partnerships with suppliers and sponsors.
