A report from the Wall Street Journal claims that Netflix is in discussions to stream live a golf tournament featuring F1 drivers and professional golfers later this year.
In recent years, we’ve seen Netlfix develop sports documentaries as a result of being a globally recognized streaming service where viewers are able to watch some of their favorite television shows and movies.
Netflix has produced ‘Drive to Survive’ which documents about the highs and lows of Formula 1 and ‘Full Swing’ focusing on what it takes to compete on the PGA Tour in golf with the two having arguably been the two most popular of all the sports productions.
The two docuseries have received appreciation for the manner in which they tell stories of the world’s top sports personalities beyond what we see on the track.
Netflix now appears to want to take another step forward and incorporate a number of the most prominent personalities from the two worlds in a celebrity golf tournament that is going to be live-streamed on the platform later this year, hosted in Las Vegas.
The WSJ reports that Netflix is in preliminary talks to put together a golf tournament. This would be the company’s first foray into live-streaming sports, an area that officials have reportedly mulled for more than a year.
We find ourselves getting a little ahead of ourselves to speculate over which F1 drivers would participate in the event should it go forward, despite the fact that the report notes that it is still in its early phases.
Several of them enjoy playing golf, but none maybe even more than McLaren driver Lando Norris, who is often seen playing it during his leisure time away from the track.
Although drivers like Carlos Sainz, Alex Albon, Charles Leclerc, and Sergio Perez have all played golf together in the past, he might be one of the drivers anticipated to perform well at the tournament if it happens.
It looks as though there would be no shortage of possible F1 drivers partaking in the tournament if it goes forward given that Lewis Hamilton may be interested as well given that he has played with Norris and other stars in previous celebrity tournaments.
You have to wonder if it will be close to to the eagerly awaited Las Vegas Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place in mid-November as the final round of the 2023 championship, given that it will also take place in Las Vegas.
