NASCAR partners with Netflix to document Cup playoffs

NASCAR has teamed up with Netflix to document the upcoming Cup Series playoffs.

It’s hardly surprising that Netflix has continued to expand into contemporary sports after the huge success of its recent Formula 1 docuseries Drive to Survive; their most recent acquisition is sure to be well-liked.

NASCAR happens to be one of the few motorsports championships that uses a playoff format to determine a champion, and all 16 playoff competitors will be featured during the competition.

This year’s final ten races include the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on September 3, which kicks off the 16-driver NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.

Four drivers are eliminated after every three races until there are just four left. The winner will be crowned at Phoenix Raceway on November 5 when the last four drivers battle in a single race.

Both NASCAR and IndyCar have attempted to develop their own versions of F1’s Drive to Survive with varying degrees of success. The CW Network’s 100 Days to Indy tracked the buildup to the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 this year.

Race For The Championship, a weekly release series created by NASCAR, chronicled the 2022 playoffs as they happened. The USA Network aired the documentary.

Ross Chastain’s now-famous wallride at Martinsville Speedway served as the highlight of the championship race, which Joey Logano won to become a two-time champion.

Netflix released a statement: “The series will feature exclusive access to drivers and teams, bringing fans behind the scenes at and away from the track while exploring the physical and mental challenges of competing for a championship at the world’s highest level of stock car racing.”

The 2023 playoffs will be covered in a five-part docuseries thanks to a partnership between NASCAR and streaming juggernaut Netflix. Each episode will last 45 minutes when it premieres in early 2024.
