Hollywood star Michael Fassbender crashed during qualifying after making his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut.
Michael Fassbender spun out of control and into the barriers during his inaugural race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, prompting a red flag.
Before the collision, the Proton Competition rider had set the fastest lap time of 4:05.296 in a Porsche 911 RSR, but he was able to get his car to the pits and appeared unscathed.
The movie star, who was racing for Proton Competition in a Porsche 911 RSR, crashed during his fourth lap of LM GTE Am qualifying, resulting in a red flag. He spun out of control and crashed into the barriers near the braking point of the Hunaudieres straight at high speed, but he made it back to the pits unharmed, and Porsche verified he was okay.
As qualifying for the hyperpole continued, he had recorded the quickest lap time of 4:05.296 which landed the Proton Porsche at the bottom of the rankings after being classified 22nd out of 23 cars in GTE-AM. However, Fassbender was logically out of options at the time of the crash.
The crash occurred while the driver was braking at the entrance of the PlayStation chicane, which is reached at a high speed after passing through one of the straight parts of the La Sarthe course. Fassbender collided with the inside barrier after losing the rear of the Porsche.
The first big sift of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the one that picks the six best cars in each category that would compete for pole position in the final session, the Hyperpole.
The incident complicates the #93 Proton Porsche’s survival in the toughest endurance race considerably, as it will be determined whether the damage is repairable in time for today’s night session.
