New Mercedes 2022 F1 car, the W13 has made its track debut at Silverstone just moments after official launch.
Mercedes is not wasting nya time in testing the all-new 2022 F1 car, Mercedes W13, with drivers Lewis Hamilton and Geroge Russell putting the car through its paces today at a drizzly Silverstone.
Soon after the team unveiled their 2022 challenger, the Mercedes W13, the reigning World Champion team shared photos of Hamilton having a try at Silverstone, as well as a video of Russell driving out of the pit garage onto the track in the Silver Arrows after two seasons in black, on Twitter.
Despite the fact that much of the UK was being pounded by Storm Eunice, the team took use of the opportunity to film at Silverstone, where the new car was unveiled for the first time earlier today.
George Russell, the team’s new driver for 2022, was the first to test the new car on the circuit, with teammate Lewis Hamilton on hand to keep an eye on him.
Mercedes is undertaking shakedown tests for its new cars alongside Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Red Bull ahead of the season’s start. On thursday, Red Bull tested their RB18 behind closed doors at Silverstone.
The ‘Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 E Performance’ will be the name of the team’s 2022 challenger, with W13 marking the Mercedes-AMG factory team’s thirteenth car since re-entering F1 in 2010.
The ‘E Performance’ technology label, which can be seen on all new AMG performance hybrid automobiles, represents the team’s continuous tight partnership with Mercedes-AMG.
“For all of us, who are so involved and invested, that is quite emotional, to see the chassis and PU go down the pit lane as one for the first time,” said Mercedes engine boss, Hywel Thomas.
“To hear the engine, to sit back and reflect on all the components that are working in there together.”
“All the people, the hard work, the effort. It’s always slightly mind-blowing, and it’s a lovely moment to message back to the factory, telling them the car has hit the track.”
This weekend, the new Mercedes W13 will be taken to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the first three days of testing next week from February 23 to 25, followed by a second test in Bahrain from March 11 to 13, and ultimately the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix on March 20.
