Mercedes unveils stunning one-off livery for 2024 Singapore Grand Prix

Mercedes F1 team has unveiled a striking one-off livery for 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, marking a major milestone in its partnership with Petronas, the team’s title sponsor.

This special livery predominantly featuring Petronas’ iconic emerald green celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Malaysian oil and gas giant, which has been a key player in the team’s success since it returned to Formula One in 2010.

The decision to debut this unique design at the Marina Bay Circuit is not merely a cosmetic change; it reflects a deep-rooted collaboration that has flourished over the years.

The emerald green will replace much of the traditional silver on Mercedes’ W15 car, particularly along the nose and sidepods.

This aesthetic shift is intended to honor both the anniversary and the vital role Petronas has played in Mercedes F1’s journey through Formula One, contributing to its remarkable achievements, including eight Constructors’ Championships and seven Drivers’ Championships.

The timing of this livery reveal is strategic; Singapore’s proximity to Kuala Lumpur where Petronas is headquartered adds a layer of significance to the celebration.

“Our partnership with Petronas is our longest standing and still going strong, and for any company to reach its 50th anniversary is an incredible milestone,” said Mercedes F1 team boss Toto Wolff.

“The special livery for 2024 Singapore Grand Prix is therefore not only a celebration of their 50th anniversary, but a reflection of Petronas’ importance in our team’s story and honours our journey together.”

Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are also excited to race the livery this weekend as part of further plans to celebrate Petronas.

“The livery looks incredible,” said Hamilton. “I can’t wait to see it on the car in the garage and then to get behind-the-wheel on Friday.

“It’s a privilege to celebrate this milestone, and our journey together, at such an important race.”

Russell added: “The design looks brilliant and is a fantastic tribute to such a milestone achievement.

“It is great to be able to recognise the importance of our relationship at the race closest to their home.”

Following the Grand Prix weekend, Wolff, Hamilton, and Russell are scheduled to visit Kuala Lumpur to further commemorate this partnership. This visit underscores the importance of maintaining strong ties with their sponsors and acknowledging their contributions to the team’s success.

Historically, Mercedes F1 has occasionally introduced one-off liveries for special events with the last notable instance being the 2019 German Grand Prix. However, the special livery for 2024 Singapore Grand Prix marks a return to such traditions amid a competitive season where every detail counts towards performance on track.

As Formula One races continue to evolve with new regulations and technological advancements, partnerships like that of Mercedes and Petronas become increasingly crucial.

The partnership has not only provided financial backing but also technical expertise that has propelled Mercedes to the forefront of motorsport innovation. The advancements in fuel technology and lubricants supplied by Petronas have been integral in optimizing performance under varying race conditions.

The unveiling of this special livery comes at a pivotal moment for Mercedes in the current season. After facing challenges in recent races, including a tough outing at Baku where Hamilton finished ninth and Russell managed to secure a podium position due to strategic circumstances, the team is looking for renewed momentum.

The visual impact of the new livery could serve as an inspiration for both drivers and fans alike as they aim for improved results in Singapore.
