Maximilian Günther has officially joined DS Penske for the upcoming 2024-25 Formula E season.
The move marks a notable return for the German driver, who previously raced for the team and is eager to contribute to their championship aspirations alongside teammate Jean-Éric Vergne.
Maximilian Günther has made a name for himself in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. He has showcased his talent across various teams, including BMW Andretti and Maserati which has resulted to a remarkable record that includes five race victories and ten podium finishes over 83 races.
The 27-year-old racing prodigy’s return to DS Penske for is a homecoming of sorts, as he first joined the team in Season 4 when team owner Jay Penske offered him a debut seat in the championship.
“I’m very happy to be joining DS PENSKE,” Gunther said. “A powerhouse in the championship and a project with strong vision. We share the same ambitions and are all driven to be at the top of Formula E.
“Representing DS Performance, a manufacturer which has won several championships already is a real privilege. Same for being teammate with a champion like Vergne, it’s something I really look forward to.
“A very special element for me is to drive for Jay’s team again, he brought me into the championship when I was 20 years old.
“I’m proud to be part of the team and excited of what we will build together in the future.”
Günther will be teaming up with Jean-Éric Vergne, a two-time Formula E champion and a driver with an impressive record in the series. The Frenchman holds the distinction of being the driver with the most points scored in Formula E history, having participated in 130 of the 132 races since the series’ inception.
The pairing of Günther and Vergne is expected to create a formidable alliance, combining their skills and experience to push DS Penske to new heights.

“I’m sure that his partnership with Jean-Eric will be very efficient and that we will be able to challenge the winners of Season 10, in order to do even better in this Season 11 that is about to
begin!”
DS PENSKE racked up four podiums and third place in the 2023-24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, improving two positions compared to Season 9.
Gunther replaces Maserati-bound Stoffel Vandoorne leaving only a handful of seats yet to be confirmed, including the second seat at Nissan, both ERT positions and team-mate to Lucas di Grassi at Abt.
