Marc Marquez and brother top the list of MotoGP crashes

While Marc Marquez missed two further Sunday races and three full weekends of racing, his 14 crashes before the MotoGP summer break are the most of any rider in 2023.

Gresini Ducati rider Alex Marquez and Marc’s Repsol Honda teammate Joan Mir are the next closest with 12 accidents, according to the official statistics listed below. Alex Marquez has taken part in all eight events, whereas Mir skipped two full weekends and had to retire from two additional races midway through because of injury.

KTM rookie Augusto Fernandez ranks fourth with 11 crashes followed with nine RS-GP crashes from Aleix Espargaro’s Aprilia.

Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo, teammates at Yamaha, each have five incidents, with Quartararo currently only two accidents short of his total for the whole 2022 season.

With Sprint races introduced this year, it was predicted that the number of falls would increase. However, with only 8 of the 12 rounds completed so far, it is probable that Marco Bezzecchi’s 2022 total of 23 falls will be exceeded.

In recent years, Marc Marquez’s 2017 total of 27 was the greatest for a single rider.
