The 2025 MotoGP season continued with dramatic developments during opening practice at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, marked by relentless rain and challenging wet conditions which got several riders struggling to record competitive laps.

The tricky conditions at the Americas MotoGP FP1 saw Marc Marquez suffer first crash as a factory Ducati rider after setting the pace at 2m16.493s before he was thrown off his GP25 going through the Turn 2 right-hander.

The highside incident happened after just six laps as Marquez pushed his Ducati to its limits in the slippery conditions. Fortunately, he emerged unscathed and managed to return to the pits with assistance.

After repairs to his bike, Marquez rejoined the session with 15 minutes remaining but Franco Morbidelli ultimately set the fastest time of the morning session with a 2m12.531s, which saw him end FP1 0.083s clear of Jack Miller while the Spaniard finished third fastest with a time of 2m12.780s.
