Marc Marquez aims for 2025 MotoGP title and he is aware that will be the most important challenge of his career as Factory Ducati officially unveils his new Desmosedici GP25 bike.
The highly anticipated announcement took place during Ducati’s 2025 team launch event held in the picturesque mountains of Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, where the six-time MotoGP champion was presented alongside two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia.
This marks a significant chapter in Marc Marquez’s career as he transitions to one of the most formidable teams in MotoGP history.
Ducati’s 2025 livery retains its iconic red hue, featuring only minor adjustments from the previous season. However, the most notable aspect of this unveiling is the presence of Marquez’s number 93 on the Ducati Desmosedici GP25 bike.
“I’m really happy to be here dressed in the official colours of Ducati,” Marquez said. “It’s exciting to be in Madonna di Campiglio today, opening a new MotoGP season.
“But above all, it’s exciting because it marks the start of what I consider to be the most important challenge of my career. During this winter I have been able to disconnect a little but I have also had time to train hard and now I feel ready to face a new year that will be intense and exciting.”
Marc Marquez’s career journey to Ducati comes after a tumultuous tenure at Honda marked by injuries that threatened to curtail his illustrious career. The Spaniard left Honda at the end of the 2023 MotoGP season for a switch to Ducati satellite team Gresini for 2024.
After spending a year with Gresini Racing on an older Ducati model, where he secured three race wins and finished third in the championship, the 31-year old rider has now signed a two-year contract with Factory Ducati.
The strategic move positions him as a key contender for his seventh premier-class title—an achievement that would place him on equal footing with his long-time rival Valentino Rossi.
However, Marquez’s arrival at Factory Ducati is not without its complexities. His new team has dominated the MotoGP landscape in recent years – clinching the manufacturers’ title for five consecutive seasons – and therefore he will need to adapt quickly and deliver race wins right away.
The Spaniard recognizes that he must navigate his role within a team that has already established itself as a powerhouse in MotoGP.
“It’s true I feel super happy, that kind of butterflies in the stomach,“ he added. “Even though I’ve been in many teams presentation, but I know when you’re in a new team and where you are in the reference team of MotoGP, it’s that extra pressure that is normal.
“I’m super happy to wear that red leather suit and looking forward to start of the season. For me the biggest challenge was last year. Of course this year we are on the official team, that means we need to fight for the world championship.”
The dynamics within the Factory Ducati team present both opportunities and challenges for Marquez. He joins two-time MotoGP World Champion Francesco Bagnaia meaning both riders boast a combined total of eleven world championships across various classes.
The relationship between Marquez and Bagnaia is particularly intriguing given their history on track. Their encounters have been intense, with moments of physicality that have added an extra layer of excitement to their rivalry.
While Marc Marquez aims for 2025 MotoGP title, he acknowledges Bagnaia’s superior experience with the GP bike and remains confident in his abilities and is eager to learn from his teammate.
“Right now, no… It’s not number one, number two [status], it’s like more experience rider inside the garage and the less experience rider inside the garage,“ Marquez added. “In the end we will have equal conditions and as a team it’s working in the same way for both riders.
“This is the most important inside the team because the end target is trying to win. As I say, if Pecco is not able to win, I need to win and opposite. This will be the main target.
“In the first races you need to also understand also the philosophy inside the garage, the way they are working and why they win so much these last few years and step by step I will understand.
“We have everything to fight for in the championship, we have the bike and the correct team, so now it is in my hands.”
As Factory Ducati prepares for the 2025 MotoGP season, both riders are focused on their performance during pre-season testing. They recently showcased their skills at the Barcelona test in November, where they ranked third and fourth fastest while working on the prototype Desmosedici GP25.
Marquez expressed optimism about their progress but acknowledged that further evaluation is necessary to ensure consistency across all circuits.
“I’m really looking forward to continuing the work we started at the Montmelo test last November and getting back on the bike at Sepang and Buriram,” he said. “My first short-term goal is to enjoy riding, because if I achieve that I know that everything else will come.
“As I have said many times, when you are in an official team, the ultimate goal cannot be other than to be competitive in every race, to get podiums and victories and to try to fight for the world championship.
“During the days we have shared with the team I have been able to see that the working environment is really fantastic. I can’t wait to ride the Desmosedici GP25 again.”
As Marc Marquez aims for 2025 MotoGP title, the anticipation surrounding his career debut in full Ducati colors builds as he prepares for the Official Sepang test scheduled for February 5-7.
This event will serve as a crucial opportunity for him to familiarize himself with the team’s philosophy and working methods.
