Robert Kubica is set to race in the Ferrari hypercar in the 2024 World Endurance Championship(WEC) after signing a deal with AF Corse.
AF Corse has confirmed that F1 race winner and current WEC LMP2 class Champion Robert Kubica will take the wheel of Ferrari 499P Hypercar for 2024 WEC as it is yet to be confirmed the entry the Polish racer will drive. .
AF Corse will field a third hypercar entry under the patronage of its customer in addition to the 499P machines run by the Ferrari factory next season as mandated by WEC regulations, which cap a manufacturer’s entries at two cars.
It is believed that Richard Mille, who was long assumed to be involved in the project, was not mentioned when the car was entered under AF Corse SRL.
AF Corse said in a statement on Wednesday that details about its partnership with Kubica and the identity of its client will be revealed in the upcoming weeks.
“It is a great honour to welcome a driver of Robert’s calibre to our family,” AF Corse boss Amato Ferrari said. “His talent and great professionalism will bring new added value to our team.”
After three years in LMP2, Kubica is thrilled to have the opportunity to prove his abilities in the FIA Hypercar Championship next season. Kubica won the LMP2 title in the WEC this year alongside Louis Deletraz and Rui Andrade with the Belgian team Team WRT.
“I’m happy that my path and the path of AF Corse will be the same next season,” Kubica said. “AF is one of the most successful teams ever in motorsport.
