Jorge Martin‘s return to competitive action has officially been confirmed with the reigning World Champion cleared to race at the 2025 Qatar MotoGP after months of recovery from injury.

The announcement comes as a relief to fans and the Aprilia Racing team, who have eagerly awaited the Spaniard’s comeback following a series of setbacks earlier this year.

Jorge Martin’s return and participation at the Qatar MotoGP was confirmed after he successfully passed medical evaluations conducted at the Lusail International Circuit on Thursday.

MotoGP shared the news on their official website: “Initial medical checks in Europe confirmed the #1 was able to travel to Doha in the hope of racing for the first time this season after we saw and heard from the 2024 World Champion at the Americas GP.

“And now, having passed the compulsory medical test at the Lusail International Circuit on Thursday, Martin is cleared to head out on track for FP1 on Friday afternoon.”

Martin’s journey back to the track has been anything but straightforward. The 2024 World Champion suffered a Supermoto training accident in February which kept him sidelined for the first three race weekends of the season.

The injury required surgery and an intensive physical therapy program aimed at accelerating his recovery. Despite these challenges Martin remained determined to return to racing expressing his eagerness during a visit to the Americas GP last month.

Martin’s commitment and resilience have paid off as he now prepares to compete on the Aprilia RS-GP for the first time since February’s Sepang Test.

The medical clearance granted by MotoGP’s medical director, Dr. Ángel Charte, is a significant milestone for Martin. However, his participation in the Qatar MotoGP is subject to ongoing evaluations throughout the weekend to ensure his fitness and safety on the track.

While Martin is cleared for Friday’s Free Practice 1 session, precautionary checks will be conducted after he ventures onto the circuit. This cautious approach underscores the physical demands of MotoGP racing and the importance of safeguarding rider health.

Jorge Martin’s return also marks his debut with Aprilia Racing, having joined the factory team after moving from Pramac Ducati for the 2025 season.

The transition to a new team and bike adds another layer of complexity to his comeback. With limited time on the RS-GP due to his injury-induced layoff, Martin has tempered expectations for his performance this weekend.

He acknowledges that he is not yet at full physical fitness and anticipates ongoing pain as he adapts to his new machine and regains confidence on the track.

“I’m a bit nervous and very happy,” Martin said in Qatar. “I’ve been through two difficult months and I’ve worked so hard to be here.

“Definitely from a physical point of view, I am not 100% and I don’t really know what to expect. I have good strength, but I still feel pain. The important thing will be to do laps.

“I have no fears or doubts, but I don’t know how I will feel riding a MotoGP bike. When you are on the track you are always on the limit, but I will have to keep some margin to be able to control the riding. Let’s say I will give 90%.

“I will deal it session by session because right now I don’t even know if I can finish the weekend, if I can it would already be a great success. This is not my time, I have to get my confidence back, then in two or three months we will see if I can fight with the best.”
