Joe Gibbs Racing’s Brandon Jones demonstrated exceptional skill and perseverance to mark his second Xfinity Series win at Darlington Raceway, reinforcing his status as a title contender.
The win was particularly significant as it broke a streak of nearly three years without a victory, as the historic event also underscored the unpredictable nature of racing at the “Track Too Tough to Tame.”
The green flag dropped at 3:30 PM ET setting the stage for a grueling contest over 147 laps and it was pole sitter Christopher Bell who led the field through the opening laps of Stage 1.
Bell demonstrated early dominance alongside his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Brandon Jones. However, reigning series champion Justin Allgaier quickly emerged as a formidable challenger showcasing exceptional pace which positioned himself as a key contender.
A caution midway through Stage 1 caused by Kris Wright’s spin allowed teams to strategize their tire usage. Harrison Burton capitalized on this opportunity and proceeded to claim the stage win, followed closely by Allgaier, Brennan Poole, Kyle Sieg, and Anthony Alfredo.
Stage 2 saw Allgaier reclaim control and his consistent pace saw him dominate this segment of the race, securing stage victory ahead of Christian Eckes and Ross Chastain.
The final stage of the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 Xfinity race was marked by intense battles and dramatic twists. Allgaier initially faced spirited charges from Chastain and Bell during the restart but managed to reassert his dominance before a caution disrupted his momentum.
Taylor Gray’s spin brought out the yellow flag, prompting all leaders to pit for fresh tires. Unfortunately for Allgaier, a slow pit stop relegated him to 15th place on the restart.
Burton gambled with a two-tire strategy that briefly propelled him forward but ultimately led to a stack-up and another caution as Garrett Smithley spun entering Turn Three.
As tensions mounted, Chase Elliott expressed frustration with Chastain following contact during the restart stack-up. Meanwhile, Brandon Jones capitalized on the chaos to position himself for victory.
With Allgaier mired in traffic, Jones faced off against Chastain and Bell in a heated battle for the lead. Chastain’s aggressive move sent Bell into the wall in Turn One but allowed him to claim second place behind Jones.
However, a multi-car crash involving Leland Honeyman, Kyle Sieg, Anthony Alfredo, and others triggered another pivotal caution with less than 20 laps remaining. This set up a decisive restart where Jones emerged as the first car on fresh tires.
Brandon Jones’ No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota quickly overtook competitors on older rubber, pulling away from Elliott and Allgaier to secure his second career Xfinity Series win at Darlington Raceway.
“It’s all for my confidence but it’s also nice to prove some haters and some people who said I wasn’t capable of doing it wrong again,” said Jones, who now holds six NASCAR Xfinity Series wins.
“This race team has had it coming for a long time. Sam McCauley is one hell of a crew chief. Had so many seconds last year, so I’m glad I got that off my back.
“This place is freaking awesome. I love coming to Darlington, man. Second win (here). This is huge momentum.”

Chase Elliott finished second in his sole Xfinity Series appearance of the season after rebounding from early setbacks while Justin Allgaier placed third despite leading a race-high 56 laps.
