William Byron has extended his contract with Hendrick Motorsports for another three years, committing to drive the team’s No. 24 Chevrolet through the 2025 season.
The new contract, which was revealed on Thursday but signed on Monday, will keep Byron as the No. 24 Chevrolet driver for the team until 2025. His previous contract with HMS expired at the end of the current season.
“I’m so thankful to continue racing for Mr. (Rick) Hendrick, Jeff (Gordon, vice chairman) and Hendrick Motorsports,” Byron said.
“Since I joined the organization, they’ve supported my growth process every step of the way, including my path to the Cup Series.
“With the great people around me, I’m excited to continue pursuing race wins and playoff success. Together we’ve built a No. 24 team that I know will contend for championships.
“I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season and my years to come with Hendrick Motorsports.”
When Byron was 18 years old, he signed with Hendrick. Byron won four races and the series title in his lone full season in the Xfinity series a year later.
The North Carolina native joined the team in the Cup Series in 2018 and has made the playoffs each of the last three seasons. Byron finished a career-high 10th in the standings last year with crew chief Rudy Fugle.
Byron is tied for third in the Cup standings after 11 races, with two victories — one of only two drivers in 2022 with multiple victories. He has won 16 NASCAR national series races at the age of 24, including four in Cup, four in Xfinity, and eight in Trucks.
Byron is one of two drivers with multiple race wins during the first 11 races of the 2022 season (Atlanta and Martinsville). Going into Darlington Raceway, he has four NASCAR Cup Series victories in 155 starts.
“William is a tremendous driver and a truly exceptional young man,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports.
“As impressed as I am by his innate ability inside a race car, I admire his character and maturity even more.”
“William is on an amazing trajectory, and I believe he’s only just begun to scratch the surface of his potential. We are fortunate to have him in our stable.”
Byron’s principal sponsors will remain, they include: Axalta Coating Systems, RAPTOR, Valvoline, and Liberty University, where Byron is an online student seeking an undergraduate degree in strategic communication.
