George Russell has hinted that the Mercedes W13 will race with a different livery for the 2022 Formula 1 season.
George Russell has hinted that the Brackley-based team may return to their old silver color scheme for 2022 with the new Mercedes W13.
Mercedes has been rumored to be ditching their black livery in favor of silver since the middle of 2021, corresponding with the start of F1’s new era in terms of technical regulations and car aesthetics.
Mercedes changed its livery from silver to black ahead of the 2020 season to show their support for Lewis Hamilton’s endorsement of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ campaign. After that, the livery was retained on until 2021, when rumors of a revert began to circulate.
Russell, who arrived at Mercedes’ Brackley factory this week to begin his new job as Mercedes driver, hinted that the team will change its livery for the first time after running in black for two years.
“I saw a show car with the 2022 livery on, which looks great!” Russell said at the end of the day.
“I can’t wait to show you all that. I’m sure you’re going to absolutely love it. No giving away what colour it is, you’ll have to wait and see…”
Mercedes will be launching the W13 on Februaru 18th.
