Jack Nicholls will no longer be working as a Formula E commentator, ending his nine-year partnership with the all-electric series.
The 2022/23 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has announced numerous significant changes to the broadcasting team in advance of the tenth and eleventh rounds that will take place in Jakarta next weekend. This comes in the wake of commentator Jack Nicholls’ unexpected resignation from the organization.
On Thursday afternoon, as Formula E announced a major restructuring of their broadcast team, word of Nicholls’ departure first surfaced. The decision arrives just one week before the doubleheader in Jakarta, and more than halfway through the season.
The process by which the decision was made is only vaguely known. Furthermore, it is unknown why the change comes so late in the season.
The voice of Jack Nicholls has become an integral part in the broadcasts of the race for series fans. Nicholls has been a member of the Formula E broadcasting crew since the first race of the electric racing championship in 2014.
The announcement comes after Vernon Kay recently quit Formula E to take over as a presenter on BBC Radio 2. The commentary team has undergone a major restructuring since Kay and Nicholls left.
Kay’s responsibilities as lead presenter have been assumed by Radzi Chinyanganya ahead of Jakarta. Saunders Carmichael-Brown fills in for Chinyanganya as the pit lane reporter in the interim.
Beginning in Jakarta next week, Ben Edwards will be the race commentator for the remaining seven events. The broadcasting crew will continue to include other well-known names including Oliver Askew, a former Formula E racer, and Karun Chandhok.
I am very excited to get back behind the mic with Formula E as the on-track action this season is a commentator’s dream.” said Edwards.
“The championship is more competitive than ever and I get to bring that to life for viewers around the world… I’m delighted to be joining the team and calling the action in Jakarta.”
