F1 has released the 2023 Formula 1 calendar, and it will include a record 24 races, running from Bahrain in March through Abu Dhabi in November.
The FIA has now officially approved the 2023 Formula 1 calendar, confirming a 24-race season after the World Motor Sport Council of the FIA approved the calendar through an electronic vote after it was published by Liberty Media.
The Monaco Grand Prix, which was on the verge of being pulled from the schedule, is still present, and the Chinese Grand Prix, which last took place in Shanghai in 2019, has been assigned a tentative date of April 16 pending the lifting of the nation’s Covid-19 restrictions.
However, the French Grand Prix won’t take place in 2023 as anticipated. This is because the traditional sportscar classic is scheduled to take place on the weekend of the Le Mans 24 Hours, falling between the Spanish and Canadian Grands Prix.
Fans of both F1 and the World Endurance Championship will also be relieved to learn that there will not be a conflict between the two series during that time.
Belgium remains on the calendar, and Azerbaijan has been shifted to April 30. Prior to leaving for Zandvoort, Spa will now be the final race before the summer break. Qatar will also make a calendar appearance next season after being absent for a year owing to the FIFA World Cup, but it’s anticipated that Formula 1 will compete in Qatar at a different track.
Las Vegas is the only new track on the schedule as there are three races in America this year. The schedule still includes a few long journeys for the teams, despite F1’s pledge to make traveling and logistics as easy as possible.
Teams will start their final month of action in Brazil in November with the third leg of a US-Mexico-Sao Paulo tripleheader before heading to Las Vegas and finally making the long journey to Abu Dhabi.
There is currently no information on where Sprint races will be added to a race weekend’s schedule in the 2023 calendar, which was approved by an electronic vote of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council.
“The presence of 24 races on the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar is further evidence of the growth and appeal of the sport on a global scale,” FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said. “The addition of new venues and the retention of traditional events underlines the FIA’s sound stewardship of the sport.”
“I am delighted that we will be able to take Formula 1’s new era of exciting racing, created by the FIA’s 2022 Regulations, to a broader fan base in 2023. In framing the 2023 F1 calendar, WMSC Members have also been mindful of the timing of the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.”
