Daniel Ricciardo absent on Bahrain test day 2 after reporting sick

Daniel Ricciardo was absent from the second day of Formula 1 pre-season testing in Bahrain on Friday after reporting sick on Thursday.

McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo was absent from the second day of Formula 1 pre-season testing in Bahrain, having missed the first session on Thursday due to illness.

The Australian began feeling ill on the morning of the first day of competition in Sakhir, according to the squad.

“While showing signs of improvement, the team will continue to assess him before he resumes driving duties,” a spokesperson from McLaren said.

“Daniel has had several precautionary COVID-19 tests during this time, which have been negative throughout.”

For now, however, it’s a blow for Ricciardo, who is hoping to make a huge impression this season after a generally unsuccessful first season with the British team in 2021, which was saved by a spectacular victory in the Italian Grand Prix.

Aside from that, the veteran Australian was mainly outdriven by his teenage colleague Lando Norris, ending 45 points and two places behind the Englishman in last year’s drivers’ standings, placing ninth overall.

Norris drove on Thursday, but was limited by brake issues that stopped him from making any extended runs, and he was back in the vehicle on Friday.

Testing concludes on Saturday, with the season beginning the following weekend in Bahrain.
