KTM Factory Racing test rider Dani Pedrosa will be making a comeback to the 2023 MotoGP World Championship lineup later this year with a wildcard entry at the San Marino MotoGP.
KTM has announced that Dani Pedrosa would compete as a wildcard for the second time in the 2023 MotoGP season in September’s San Marino Grand Prix at the Misano circuit.
Pedrosa is eager to improve on the positive weekend he had at Jerez at the end of April where he was able to secure an amazing seventh in the Spanish MotoGP after qualifying sixth. KTM confirmed that he will make another wildcard start at Misano ahead of the German Grand Prix on Sunday at Sachsenring.
Pedrosa’s Misano appearance, which involves having to be present at the Adriatic track for the post race single day test that follows comes after he grabbed attention earlier this year with a spectacular performance during the Spanish MotoGP at Jerez.
The 31-time premier class race winner’s San Marino appearance will be his third wildcard ride for KTM since joining the brand’s test riders ahead of the 2019 season. Before going to this year’s Spanish GP, his only previous MotoGP outing was the 2021 Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring, where he finished a respectable tenth.
Pedrosa has previously won two races in the premier category at Misano, but this will be his first time racing there since his final MotoGP season in 2018.
KTM’s statement confirming Pedrosa’s second wildcard event of the campaign read: “The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team will again welcome the #26 RC16 into play.
Pedrosa has been recognized with playing a key role in the Austrian team’s turnaround and transformation into the top contender it is right now. He joins Brad Binder and Jack Miller in the KTM Factory squad.
“MotoGP Legend Dani Pedrosa will follow-up his popular wildcard appearance and 7th place finish in Jerez, Spain earlier this season with another race start at the Gran Premio Red Bull di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini from 8-10 September.
“The Spaniard will join Brad Binder and Jack Miller at the Misano World Circuit – Marco Simoncelli for the twelfth Grand Prix of the season this summer.
“Dani’s weekend at Misano will be followed by the second and final official mid-season IRTA test at the venue on Monday.”
