Recent filming for upcoming Brad Pitt F1 movie has taken the motorsport world by storm particularly after spectators witnessed a shocking scene at the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Fans and spectators were left in shock when they witnessed a dramatic scene unfold on the track, where a racer appeared to faint amidst the high-octane atmosphere of one of the most glamorous events in the F1 calendar.
This incident, however, was not a real emergency but rather a carefully orchestrated Brad Pitt F1 movie stunt for the highly anticipated motion picture film which is set to hit theaters on June 27, 2025.
The 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix was filled with spectacle and excitement, drawing in crowds eager to witness not only the racing but also the glitz and glamour associated with Formula 1. Besides that, the presence of Brad Pitt added an extra layer of intrigue to the event.
As fans were captivated by the high-speed action on the track, their attention was suddenly diverted when a figure resembling the Brad Pitt F1 movie character, Sonny Hayes, collapsed dramatically onto a padded mat on the track.
The incident which happened shortly after George Russell claimed pole position for the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix was captured in videos and posted on social media, quickly going viral as spectators shared their astonishment at what they believed was a genuine incident.
In reality, however, the actor was not on the track during the fall; instead, it was his stunt double performing a scene that depicted Hayes experiencing a dramatic crash. The Oscar winner himself was chatting with the performer on the film’s set.
The stuntman was seen wearing full racing gear and executed a fall onto a strategically placed stunt mat to ensure safety. Despite initial concerns from onlookers about the nature of the incident, it became clear that this was all part of the film’s narrative arc.
The scene highlights a pivotal moment in Hayes’ storyline as he navigates his comeback in Formula 1 racing after suffering a horrific crash earlier in his career.
APX GP, the fictional team Brad Pitt F1 movie character drives for, even released a mock statement on Instagram addressing the crash: “During qualifying, Sonny sustained a significant impact requiring immediate medical evaluation.”
“Incidents of this magnitude are always taken seriously, and Sonny’s health remains our top priority. While Sonny is otherwise stable, he will not participate in tomorrow’s race as he focuses on recovery.
“The entire team stands behind him, and we’ll provide updates when available. Joshua [Pearce, played by Idris] will race solo tomorrow, carrying the team forward.”
The film “F1” is being produced in collaboration with Apple Original Films under the direction of Joseph Kosinski with Jerry Bruckheimer as the producer along with the help of seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton while the likes of Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies and Kim Bodnia are also in the film.
Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, is portrayed as a former F1 driver who faces personal and professional challenges upon his return to racing. His journey is intertwined with that of rookie driver Joshua Pearce, played by Idris.
The dynamic between these two characters is central to the plot as they navigate their roles within the fictional APX GP team. The film promises not only thrilling racing sequences but also an exploration of themes such as redemption and mentorship within the competitive world of motorsport.
The Brad Pitt F1 movie has already been filmed at various prestigious racing venues worldwide, including races in Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mexico as well as at the famous Daytona International Speedway and England’s Silverstone Circuit.
Director Joseph Kosinski has emphasized the challenges of filming live scenes at actual Grand Prix events. The logistics involved are complex, especially as both Pitt and co-star Damson Idris are required to drive real F1 cars at high speeds while filming in front of thousands of fans.
Kosinski noted that capturing these moments authentically adds an unparalleled level of excitement and realism to the film.
