Austin Hill to make a return to Truck racing with Spire at Pocono

Austin Hill will make a comeback to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in the #7 Chevrolet Silverado RST for Spire Motorsports on July 22 at Pocono Raceway.

Austin Hill, a regular in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, will be in charge of driving the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet in the CRC Brakleen 150 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Saturday at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Hill qualified fifth on Friday.

His first start of 2023 will be his third for the team.

“I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the No. 7 ARCO Design/Build Silverado at Pocono Raceway,” Hill said.

“Last year with practice and qualifying getting rained out, we had to start in back, but the Spire Motorsports team brought a fast truck, and we were able to get a top-five finish.

“I’ve had success and a chance to win in the Craftsman Truck Series at Pocono in the past, so I feel confident that we will have a shot to contend for the win.”

Hill made his truck racing debut with Spire in 2022 at Daytona, where he finished fifteenth. He then joined the team again for that year’s Pocono race, where he finished sixth.

The starts followed his graduation to the Xfinity Series with Richard Childress Racing, where he quickly made a name for himself as one of the best racers on superspeedways and is now second in the standings with three victories.

Between 2018 and 2021, he competed exclusively in the Trucks and scored eight victories. He has two top five finishes in seven Truck races at Pocono, including a second-place finish in 2020, a year after winning the pole.

“Spire Motorsports is thrilled to have a driver of Austin’s caliber behind the wheel this weekend at Pocono Raceway,” Spire’s Mike Greci said.

“It’s no secret that Austin and I have some history together, so I know, first hand, what kind of talent he is. His Xfintiy Series results this season speak for themselves.

“I’m confident anytime Austin is in our truck, we’re fully capable of running up front and winning races.”

Spire typically concentrates on the Cup Series, hence the #7 only competes on occasion.

William Byron and Kyle Larson both won at Martinsville in 2022 and North Wilkesboro in May while other drivers in 2023 included Spire Cup racer Corey LaJoie, Marco Andretti and Jonathan Davenport.

All four drivers from Cup ally Hendrick Motorsports have driven the Truck Series entry.
