Aston Martin reveals major upgrades ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix

Aston Martin’s heavily upgraded Formula 1 car has broken cover ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix With huge obvious improvements.

The AMR22 features a completely redesigned sidepod design and a new floor as part of a package meant to remedy its porpoising issue and assist it move out of F1’s lower midfield.

With a car that has been over the weight limit and limited in its mechanical set-up because of how much the original design suffered from porpoising, Aston Martin is only six points ahead of Williams in the constructors’ championship after the first five races.

Aston Martin Team boss Mike Krack had previously stated that changes to enhance the AMR22’s situation would be completed in time for the race this weekend, and photos taken on Thursday in Barcelona proved this.

The aggressive ‘twin-floor’ style sidepod has been replaced with a more typical front sidepod undercut and a wide, flat top surface that angles down all the way to the rear tyres. The cooling louvres have also been moved from the top of the sidepod to the back of the monocoque and onto the engine cover as a result of the revised design.

A new floor with a reworked centre portion completes the transformation. Since pre-season, this drastic change has been exprcted.
