AlphaTauri emerged as the sixth team to debut a new livery for the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix with theirs being one of the most dramatic designs yet unveiled.
AlphaTauri has established a one-race partnership with Bandai Namco and unveiled a specially designed livery for the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The car will feature the RX-78-2 Gundam and the XVX-016 Gundam Aerial decals.
However, contrary to its rivals, the Faenza squad will maintain the same design for next week’s F1 season finale in Abu Dhabi.
The AT04’s livery which features whitestripes running over its bodywork was designed by Californian muralist and artist Brendan Monroe—who also designed AlphaTauri’s Las Vegas Capsule Collection.
In addition to having Gundam decals applied to the AT04’s headrest, this race will also feature a 10-foot Gundam statue placed within the team area and also the release of a promotion clip featuring Yuki Tsunoda sporting Gundam-inspired overalls.
A plastic replica of the RX-78-2 Gundam decorated in the AlphaTauri colors, will also be on display. The AlphaTauri-inspired RX-78-2 and Tsunoda will both be included in artwork.
“Gundam, which is one of the longest-running science-fiction series in the world, is a fictional reflection of the real-life challenges faced by F1 drivers in each race,” senior vice-president of business development at Bandai Namco Entertainment America Karim Farghaly said.
“We have always been able to connect to fans around the world with the themes of heroism, facing adversity and overcoming incredible odds.
“Our partnership with Scuderia AlphaTauri is based on their vision and efforts to create something meaningful and memorable for both F1 fans and Gundam fans by bringing Gundam to the inaugural Las Vegas GP.”
The team’s director of marketing and communications Fabian Wrabetz added: “Gundam is recognised globally and loved by enthusiastic fans all around the world.
“We embrace the spirit of Gundam and we are delighted to welcome them as partners for the 2023 Las Vegas GP.
“This collaboration will be a memorable one, featuring activations both on- and off-track that will encourage fan participation in a fun and exciting way.”
AlphaTauri has been upping its performance game after recently concluding the last three races in points. The question of whether the collaboration with Gundam will make an impact at the Grand Prix of Las Vegas will undoubtedly draw interest from people all over the world, not just F1 enthusiasts.
The other five teams that have made changes to their car liveries for the upcoming race are Alpine, Williams, Red Bull, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari.
