Alexander Rossi joins Rasmussen at Ed Carpenter Racing for 2025

In a highly anticipated move within the IndyCar Series Ed Carpenter Racing has officially confirmed the signing of Alexander Rossi for the 2025 season.

Rossi, a prominent figure in American open-wheel racing, will partner with rising star Christian Rasmussen as the team seeks to enhance its competitive edge in one of motorsport’s most challenging arenas.

This announcement, made on September 25, 2024, marks a significant turning point for both Rossi and Ed Carpenter Racing as they aim to build a formidable presence in the series.

Alexander Rossi’s career has been marked by notable achievements including his victory at the Indianapolis 500 in 2016 which catapulted him into the spotlight. He also holds eight victories and 30 podiums in his IndyCar career.

The 34-year old has spent the past two seasons with Arrow McLaren, where he secured two podium finishes and consistently ranked within the top ten in the series standings. However, he found himself exploring new opportunities as his contract negotiations did not yield an extension.

Rossi’s decision to join Ed Carpenter Racing is viewed as a strategic move to revitalize his career and contribute his extensive experience to a team that has faced its share of challenges in recent years.

“I’m honoured that Ed and the entire ECR ownership group recognize the value I can bring to the team,” said Alexander Rossi.

“Their commitment to excellence, along with the power of Chevrolet and the ambitious plans they have for the future made this opportunity impossible to pass up.

“I’m eager to get started and contribute to the team’s continued success.”

Meanwhile Christian Rasmussen who is entering his second season with Ed Carpenter Racing is eager to continue his development alongside the seasoned Rossi.

The young driver made a significant impact during his rookie year, achieving a best finish of ninth at Mid-Ohio and playing a crucial role in securing a Leader’s Circle spot for the No. 20 car.

For the upcoming season, Rasmussen will transition to the No. 21 entry, where he aims to leverage his rookie experiences and push for more consistent results on track.

“I’m incredibly excited to earn a full-time role with Ed Carpenter Racing,” said Rasmussen. “My rookie year in IndyCar was full of firsts, and I can’t wait to bring everything I’ve learned into my second season.

“I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to team up with Alexander to push the team forward and fight towards the front of the grid more consistently.”

Ed Carpenter, who serves as both team owner and driver, expressed palpable excitement about the new driver lineup. He highlighted the importance of Rossi’s arrival and the continuity provided by Rasmussen’s presence within the team.

“It is an exciting day to not only welcome Alexander Rossi to the team, but to extend our relationship with Christian Rasmussen,” said Carpenter. “We are very excited about our lineup, and other partnership announcements that will be forthcoming.”

Carpenter also acknowledged that parting ways with Rinus VeeKay was an emotional decision, given his contributions over five years with Ed Carpenter Racing.

“As excited as I am about these additions, I also want to thank Rinus for his five years with the team,” he added.

“It is always hard to say goodbye to a teammate and a friend, but I am confident that Rinus’ career will continue to blossom.

“As we look ahead to 2025 and beyond, I am fully focused on getting ECR back to new heights, winning races and contending for championships.”

VeeKay’s tenure included notable achievements such as winning the Rookie of the Year title in 2020 and clinching victory on the Indianapolis Road Course in 2021.

However, after struggling to secure sponsorships and consistent results in recent seasons, VeeKay’s departure was deemed necessary for the team to chart a new course.
