AJ Allmendinger set for full-time return to Cup Series with Kaulig Racing for 2025

AJ Allmendinger is set to return to full-time competition for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series, Kaulig Racing has officially confirmed.

This decision marks a pivotal moment in the 42-year old’s career, as he transitions back to the Cup Series after a season spent primarily in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

AJ Allmendinger, a seasoned driver with a rich history in NASCAR, has been a prominent figure in the sport since his debut in 2007. Over the years, he has competed for various teams, including Team Penske and Richard Petty Motorsports, before settling with Kaulig Racing in 2019.

Before launching a career in stock car racing, Allmendinger raced in IndyCar, including in the Champ Car World Series making six IndyCar Series starts in 2013 alongside his on and off appearances in sports car racing.

Throughout his career, the Californian has accumulated three wins in the NASCAR Cup Series, with notable victories at the Watkins Glen International in 2014, the Indianapolis Road Course in 2021, and the Charlotte Roval in 2023.

In the current season, Allmendinger has been racing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, where he has demonstrated impressive performance. As of mid-August 2024, he sits sixth in the series standings, boasting ten top-10 finishes and three top-five finishes in 20 races.

His consistent performance has positioned him well for the upcoming playoffs, showcasing his ability to compete at a high level which prompted Kaulig Racing to officially announce his return to the Cup Series.

Allmendinger is set to take over the #16 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, a car that has seen a rotation of drivers throughout the current season. This strategic move is seen as a way to stabilize the team and improve their performance in the Cup Series.

Kaulig Racing has been expanding its footprint in NASCAR over the years. The team made its Cup Series debut in 2020 and has been working towards establishing itself as a competitive force.

The team is yet to confirm the driver for the #31 car, which will partner with Allmendinger in 2025, leaving fans eager for more announcements.
