Alfa Romeo F1 team will feature a new livery at this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.
The colour, dubbed Montreal Green, was selected to commemorate the premiere of Alfa Romeo’s new Tonale road car and this weekend, the scheme will be seen on Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu’s C42s on the streets of Baku.
The colour scheme which will be somewhat identical to the unique paint job it ran in the Italian GP at Monza last year, will retain the C42’s traditional red and white colour scheme but add a large splash of green to the back half of the engine cover and sidepod, imitating the Italian flag.
“To mark this important step in Alfa Romeo’s metamorphosis towards a new era of connectivity and electrification, and to reinforce the brand’s link to its noble sporting heritage, the Alfa Romeo F1 Team C42s of Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu will sport a special livery with a full-green engine cover featuring Tonale’s signature headlights shape,” the release said.
“The new livery is another step in the cementing of the strong links between the legendary automotive brand and the Sauber Group, a deep co-operation bringing together two historical brands and leveraging 30 years of F1 know-how to create new strategic strengths.”
According to Alfa Romeo’s statement, fans will be able to see the C42 through a “unique augmented reality experience” offered by the team’s partner JigSpace.
Although Alpine did run the first two races in a predominately pink car before transitioning to its current mostly blue identity, Alfa’s Baku livery spec is the first significantly changed one-off colour scheme of the season.
Alfa Romeo is having its finest F1 season ever and definitely the best in its latest form, thanks to Valtteri Bottas, who is leading the team to fifth place in the standings alongside youngster Zhou Guanyu.
Alfa Romeo is fifth, just a point ahead of Alpine in the Constructors’ Championship heading into the eighth round of the season.
