Saudi Arabian GP organisers insist Jeddah race will happen amid missile attacks

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix organizers have dismissed concerns that the race may be canceled this weekend.

Following the postponement of the Sochi Winter Olympics due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, many have speculated that Iran-linked attacks on the Saudi capital city of Jeddah, where the race is being held, should result in a similar cancellation.

Worse, the most visible attack was on an Aramco plant, despite the fact that the Saudi oil firm is a major sponsor of both the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and the Aston Martin team.

“This incident has no bearing on the racing weekend,” the race organizers said.

“We are in constant contact with the relevant authorities and all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of all visitors as well as participating personnel, staff and media.”
