Pol Espargaro returned to the top of the timesheets, ending the third and final day of Mandalika pre-season test as the fastest rider overall.
Honda rider, Pol Espargaro topped the timesheets on Sunday, just a day after he led the opening day of action at Indonesia’s Mandalika Circuit, when he created a new lap record of 1:31.060s during the morning session.
Reigning MotoGP world champion Fabio Quartararo ranked second overall, just 0.014s behind Espargaro, despite being disappointed by the lack of more power from his Yamaha M1.
Aprilia had a very successful weekend as Aleix Espargaro secured the third spot once more, finishing a few tenths of a second behind his brother, while factory Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli and Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia rounded out the top five.
Ranking sixth was Alex Rins marking the only Suzuki out for the last day of testing after teammate Joan Mir was forced to withdraw due to some stomach pain and vomiting with speculations that he might be suffering from mild food poisoning.
Maverick Vinales of Aprilia edged out Johann Zarco of Pramac Ducati to take the seventh and eighth place respectively. KTM’s Brad Binder salvaged a top ten finish after ranking ninth ffor the Austrian brand, which has battled for outright speed this off-season, while LCR Honda’s Alex Marquez completed the top 10 just 0.543s behind Espargaro’s benchmark time.
VR46 rider Luca Marini was 12th fastest on the final day, but he’ll end up third in the overall combined times thanks to his excellent performance on Saturday. Marc Marquez finished 14th in the test, barely ahead of Ducati’s Jack Miller and Andrea Dovizioso of RNF Racing Yamaha, as 2021 Austrian Grand Prix winner Jorge Martin finished 20th for Pramac.
MotoGP rookieRaul Fernandez, had a big accident and went for extra medical checks following a Sunday morning tumble, finishing the test early. His doctor felt that the safest choice was to halt riding for the day.
