Pascal Wehrlein scores Porsche maiden victory after Mexico E-Prix win

Pascal Wehrlein finished ahead of teammate Andre Lotterer in a 1-2 finish in Mexico City, giving Porsche their first Formula E victory.

Porsche driver,Pascal Wehrlein was able to utilize his pole position at the Mexico City E-Prix to his first Formula E victory, with teammate Andre Lotterer coming in second.

Wehrlein led Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara into the first turn. Wehrlein lost the lead to Mortara through the first overtaking zones, giving the impression that Porsche was suffering from slow pace.

As both Wehrlein and Lotterer battled for racing pace, Jean-Eric Vergne later sneaked past the two Porsches taking the lead. Porsche took the advantage of saving more energy than its rivals in the final stages of the race, with both its drivers being able to overtake Vergne and Mortara, who had built up a two-second lead at the front.

In spite of a fight with Mortara and Robin Frijns, Werhlein and Lotterer retained their positions until the end of the race, while Vergne finished third. After slipping back behind Vergne’s Techeetah teammate Antonio Felix da Costa, Mortara finished fifth and still leads the championship.

Nyck de Vries dropped out of the top 10 after running in the points for a majority of the race before battling his way back up to P6 in the final laps thanks to other cars running low on energy. It was not a good day for Mercedes as Stoffel Vandoorne also had a tough day as he had looked like he was heading for a points finish until a collision with Lucas di Grassi forced him to finish 11th.

Despite running in third until the final laps, Robin Frijns finished the race in seventh position. Lucas di Grassi of Venturi finished eighth after a close encounter with Guenther and Nick Cassidy as Nissan drivers Sebastien Buemi and Maximilian Guenther rounded out the top 10.
