Lando Norris extends contract with McLaren up to 2025

Lando Norris has signed a new four-year contract extension with McLaren that will keep him with the team until at least the end of the 2025 F1 season.

McLaren’s Lando Norris has signed a new deal that commits him to the F1 team for the next four years. According to reports, the new contract has no get-out clauses meaning the 22-year old will fully commit to the team up to 2025.

This comes after Norris signed a multi-year contract with the Woking-based outfit in May last year that was set to expire at the end of 2023, but the 22-year-old Briton has now committed himself to the team until the end of 2025.

Lando Norris joined McLaren back in 2017, when he was signed to the company’s junior driver program at the age of 17 and tested their Formula 1 car in the middle of the season.

Norris was later promoted to reserve driver in 2018 and got further integrated into the Formula One team over the year, eventually signing on as a race driver for 2019.

Norris had his best season in Formula One last year, winning his maiden pole in Russia and four podiums en route to a sixth-place finish in the 2021 Formula 1 championship.

The contract extension cements McLaren’s relationship with Norris, with the 22-year-old pledging his long-term future to the team.

“Teams are about people, and I love the people and feel at home at McLaren,” said Norris.

“I have grown up in this team and I’m part of this journey we’re all on.”

“Last season was another great step, both in my career and the team’s performance, and I see and feel all the work, investment, and commitment for the team to be in a position to challenge for wins and titles in the future.”

“This all gives me huge confidence looking forward, so it was a natural decision to extend our relationship for the next few years.”

McLaren’s senior leadership, led by Andreas Seidl and Zak Brown, has also committed to “long-term” commitments in light of Norris’ new contract.

“The opportunity to extend our relationship with Lando reflect not only our commitment but our belief and confidence in his talent,” said McLaren team principal, Andreas Seidl.”

“It is also a strong sign of trust and commitment from Lando in us as a team and our journey to world championship contention.”

“Lando has shown impressive growth as a Formula 1 driver over the past four years and has been an instrumental part of the team’s momentum and performance trajectory.”

“We are still on our journey to fight at the front and Lando is a key element of our plan, so to lock him into place, alongside Daniel and our senior leadership, gives us stability and continuity as we build towards our ultimate shared goal of world championships.”

McLaren will unveil their MCL36 car for the 2022 season on Friday at its Woking headquarters.
