The Suzuki MotoGP livery for 2022 was unveiled at a press conference held inside the team’s Sepang garage.
Suzuki has become the fourth MotoGP team to reveal the livery that will grace Alex Rins and Joan Mir’s third development of the GSX-RR for 2022.
The GSX-livery RR’s has been updated this year to include additional black elements. Along with the traditional blue and silver, black is used at the front to serve as a backdrop for each rider’s number. Instead of being black, the bike’s wings are now blue.
The Hamamatsu-based brand presented a revised 2022 scheme in an online presentation just a day before the first pre-season test of the year gets underway at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, adding a dash of black on the GSX-nose RR’s to its traditional light blue and silver scheme.
The squad is in Malaysia for the first official pre-season test of the 2022 season, which begins this weekend (February 5-6). This season, Joan Mir and Alex Rins will ride for the team again, and both riders will be hoping for a more competitive campaign.
With a series of modifications brought in by Suzuki for this year, including engine refinements as well as developments to its chassis and ride height device to attempt and provide more of a title tilt relative to previous season, Mir is seeking to recapture the title he lost to Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo last year.
Mir’s title defense came to an end last season with no victories, but he still finished third overall, 70 points behind the new champion, Fabio Quartararo. Throughout the year, Mir was able to secure six poles.
“I took some time during the winter to relax and shut off after a tricky 2021 season,” Mir said.
“I was happy to finish third in the championship but I’m hungry for more, and it was important to reset so that I could focus 100% on achieving my maximum. My pre-season training has gone well and I’m feeling fit and ready to attack.”
“I’m looking forward to getting back on my bike, the tests that took place at the end of last year showed an improved performance that I’m happy with, so now it’s time to show the new livery and put more laps in ahead of the season start in around one month’s time.”
Rins, on the other hand, will be hoping for a far more fruitful year after only claiming a single podium at Silverstone in 2021, resulting in a poor 13th place in the rider’s championship, compared to Mir’s solid third-place finish.
“The new GSX-RR looks amazing, and it also performs well! I’m really happy to be nearing the start of a new season,” Rins said.
“I’ve done a lot of training during the break, not only in the gym but also on my GSXR1000R street bike. However, nothing compares to our race bike at the circuits.”
“It’s nice to reunite with the team, we are all focused on the same goal, and I trust in them, we’ve all shown that we’re ready to achieve great things. The test days will be important, but we can’t wait for the first race in Qatar!”
