With a blistering lap time of 1:38.641, Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia outpaced his rivals including championship leader Jorge Martin, who will start down from fourth position.
Qualifying for the 2024 Solidarity Barcelona MotoGP was marked by intense competition and tactical maneuvers among the riders. The Q2 session commenced with a chaotic atmosphere as riders rushed onto the track in search of optimal tow opportunities in a bid to extract optimal speed and secure the top grid slots.
Notably, Marc Marquez almost collided with Bagnaia’s bike during this frantic start, highlighting the high stakes and pressures involved. However, Bagnaia quickly established himself as the rider to beat, setting an early benchmark with a time of 1:38.835 as his confidence navigating the Catalunya Circuit with precision increased lap by lap.
Marquez, keen to capitalize on Bagnaia’s pace, followed closely behind and managed to secure second place temporarily, further intensifying the competition at the front.
As the session progressed, Aleix Espargaro and Jorge Martin were also in contention for front-row positions with the Aprilia rider proving to be instrumental in providing a tow for Martin during their runs.

The rest of the grid saw notable performances from several riders. Maverick Viñales qualified seventh, followed closely by Enea Bastianini in eighth and Marco Bezzecchi in ninth. Fabio Quartararo managed to secure tenth place after a solid performance but will be looking for more in the upcoming races.
Gresini’s Alex Marquez recovered from an early crash to finish 11th ahead of LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco in 12th. Joan Mir narrowly missed out on a Q2 appearance and will head the fifth row of the grid in 13th ahead of Miguel Oliveira in 14th and Alex Rins in 15th.
Luca Marini will head the fifth row in 16th after a decent showing for Repsol Honda, ahead of Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez in 17th. KTM duo struggled during the session with Brad Binder finishing down in 18th ahead of teammate Jack Miller in 19th as the latter crashed at the end of Q1.
Takaaki Nakagami finished qualifying in 20th ahead of Augusto Fernandez in 21st. Michele Pirro finished in 22nd while Stefan Bradl completed the standings in 23rd.
