Fan favourite McLaren chrome livery returns for United States Grand Prix

Fans will delight with the second return of the iconic McLaren chrome livery for this weekend’s F1 United States Grand Prix.

The striking design will adorn the MCL38 cars of drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri at Circuit of the Americas, marking a continuation of the team’s “Chrome Shines Again” campaign.

The livery is not merely a nostalgic nod to the team’s illustrious past but also a modern interpretation that embodies McLaren’s commitment to innovation and excellence in racing.

The McLaren chrome livery first made its appearance during the British GP in 2023, where it was met with widespread admiration. The second edition, unveiled just in time for the Austin race, retains the essence of the team’s heritage while incorporating contemporary design elements.

The collaboration with Google, one of McLaren’s primary partners, further boosts this initiative, emphasizing both brands’ dedication to cutting-edge design and technology.

The chrome finish on the cars is designed to reflect light in a way that captivates spectators and television audiences alike. It serves as a reminder of McLaren’s golden years between 2006 and 2014, when their cars were adorned with similar sleek finishes.

Therefore the retro-modern aesthetic not only appeals to long-time fans but also attracts new followers who appreciate the artistry involved in Formula 1 car design.

Currently leading the Constructors’ Championship by a comfortable margin over Red Bull Racing, McLaren is focused on consolidating its position as they head into the final stretch of the season and with only six races remaining, every point is crucial.

As McLaren prepares for the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, team principal Andrea Stella expressed optimism about their performance.

“After a busy few weeks back at the factory to consolidate and strengthen our championship campaign, we now head to Austin for the first of two triple headers,” said Stella. “We’re only six races away from the end of the season but there are still a lot of points on the table.

“Many teams will be bringing updates in these final races, so we expect some close competition, but as always, we keep our heads down, focus on ourselves and look to consistently deliver points in our quest for both titles.”

Lando Norris voiced his enthusiasm for racing at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, noting that the vibrant atmosphere of the city complements his excitement about the return of McLaren chrome livery.

“I love going to Austin. The vibe is always incredible, and I really enjoy racing there, especially with the cool Chrome livery we have this weekend,” he said.

“It’s a great race to start the final leg of the season after a few weeks off. It’s also a Sprint weekend, which means there are more points on the table.

“I’ve spent some time back at the MTC in the sim preparing for the upcoming triple header. The next two months are going to be incredibly busy, but also exciting.

“I’m ready to get back in the car, so let’s show Texas what we can do.”

McLaren leads the Constructors’ Championship by 41 points over Red Bull, with Norris second in the Drivers’ standings, 52 points behind title-leader Max Verstappen.

Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri is fourth with 237 points, just eight behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
