Michael Schumacher’s former manager recently opened up on why he doesn’t visit the F1 legend since the accident after he was not invited to his daughter’s wedding.
In a poignant revelation, Willi Weber, Michael Schumacher’s former manager and close confidant during his illustrious racing career shared his feelings regarding their estranged relationship following the accident.
Weber’s comments came to light after reports indicated that the seven-time world champion was seen at his daughter Gina-Maria’s wedding in Majorca marking one of the rare occasions he has appeared publicly since the incident.
The wedding was a significant family event, yet Weber was notably absent, which prompted discussions about his current stance on visiting Schumacher.
Weber expressed deep regret over not visiting Schumacher after the accident, admitting that he believed initial media reports were exaggerated and that waiting for more information was prudent.
“It was my fault that I didn’t visit Michael after the accident and stand by him because I thought the media reports were exaggerated,” he said in a candid interview with German publication Bild.
“I thought I’d better wait a few days and then everything would be fine. But it was too late. For a long time I blamed myself for not reacting immediately.
“Since then, I’ve said goodbye to Michael in my heart in order to find my peace again.”
He reflected on their long history together, emphasizing that Schumacher was not just a client but someone he regarded as a son. This emotional connection makes Weber’s absence from the wedding even more poignant.
At 82 years old, Weber’s health has also deteriorated, leading him to decline an invitation to the wedding. He mentioned that even if he had been invited, traveling to Mallorca would have posed significant challenges due to his current state of health.
“I have had no contact with the family for over ten years, I can barely remember what even happened,” he added.
“I was not invited to the wedding, but I would not have gone anyway because my health is not good at the moment. I would not have wanted to fly to Mallorca.
“Michael was one of my best friends. More like a son that I never had. Nobody knows exactly what’s going on with him today, so I don’t want to comment any further.”
The relationship between Weber and Schumacher dates back to 1991 when Weber began managing the young driver as he entered Formula One. Their partnership was marked by tremendous success, including multiple world championships and groundbreaking achievements in the sport.
However, their relationship soured around 2010 when Schumacher made a comeback with Mercedes. This fallout led to a decade-long estrangement during which Weber has had no contact with Schumacher or his family.
Weber’s reflections on their time together reveal a profound sense of loss and longing for the friendship they once shared. He said: “I’m thinking about my successes with Michael—our goals and our victories.”
He lamented the fact that they may never see each other again, stating that he has had no positive news about Schumacher for many years. This absence of communication has left him grappling with feelings of grief and regret.
The emotional weight of Weber’s statements highlights the broader impact of Schumacher’s accident—not just on his immediate family but also on those who were once integral parts of his life.
The secrecy surrounding Schumacher’s health has made it difficult for friends and former colleagues to come to terms with what has happened since that fateful day on the slopes in France.
The Schumacher family has been very protective of Michael’s privacy since the accident, sharing little information about his condition or progress with the outside world, a decision that has been met with mixed reactions from fans, as many continue to hope for updates on the Formula 1 legend.
The lack of transparency surrounding his health has created an environment where speculation thrives, yet those closest to him are often left in the dark.
The emotional weight of Michael Schumacher’s former manager reflections serves as a poignant reminder of the impact that Schumacher’s accident has had not only on his immediate family but also on those who were once close to him.
The motorsport community continues to rally around Schumacher, celebrating his legacy while grappling with the reality of his current situation.
