The Ferrari 499P has received the biggest weight increase in BoP changes for the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, making it the heaviest car along with Toyota GR010 Hybrid.
The Ferrari 499P has received the biggest weight increase of the nine Hypercars in the Balance of Performance issued for this weekend’s fifth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship season in Sao Paulo.
The BoP table for FIA WEC’s return to the Interlagos circuit since 2014 was released on Monday with the back-to-back 24 Hours of Le Mans winner on 1060 kg—a 17 kg rise from last month’s French endurance classic.
This places the Italian manufacturer on an equal footing with the Toyota GR010 Hybrid, which picked up 7 kg from the previous event. However, the GR010 remains with a slightly higher power rating of 506kW for Sao Paulo compared to the Ferrari’s 503kW despite receiving a positive Power Gain value of 1.8 percent.
The infamous “two-stage BoP” will be applied in a regular WEC race for the first time at the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo after introduction at Le Mans. While the organizers regard the BoP for Le Mans as an exception in the WEC calendar, the Sao Paulo table shows both gains and drops compared with the French classic.
The Isotta Fraschini Tipo 6 Competizione, which has reduced by 18 kg to a minimum of 1030 kg, and the Lamborghini SC63, which stays at 1039 kg, are the only two of the nine Hypercar manufacturers which have not received a weight increase.
The Porsche 963 has received the next highest weight increase at 9 kg resulting to a total of 1051 kg. This makes it the third heaviest car in the field, tied with the Peugeot 9X8, which is up 4 kg after the previous event.
The Alpine A424 and BMW M Hybrid V8 now both weigh in at 1044 kg after increases of 6 kg and 5kg respectively, while the Cadillac V-Series.R has gone up by 3 kg to match the Lamborghini at 1039 kg.
Cadillac has also been awarded the biggest power increase in the field at 10kW (up to 519kW), and is one of six cars to have had its horsepower upped from Le Mans.
Alpine has the next-largest power boost at 9kW (516kW), followed by Isotta Fraschini with 5kW (520kW) and BMW with 4kW (512kW). The Peugeot and Porsche have been given an extra 2kW (510kW) and 1kW (512kW) respectively.
The Power Gain value remains at 250 km/h (155.3 mph), with the Alpine (-1.3 percent), Cadillac (-1.5 percent) and Lamborghini (-1 percent) all losing power above the threshold.
Toyota is the only other marque besides Ferrari with a positive Power Gain value at 2.8 percent, but they are the only two brands to have lost base power since Le Mans.
