Isack Hadjar to replace Perez in British Grand Prix FP1

Formula 2 driver Isack Hadjar is scheduled to drive the Red Bull RB20 in opening practice for the British Grand Prix this weekend, replacing Sergio Perez.

Red Bull junior Isack Hadjar will take part in Friday’s British Grand Prix FP1, with the F2 racer taking over Sergio Perez’s RB20 in the session so as to fulfil F1 regulations that require teams to run a rookie in two FP1 sessions per season.

The Frenchman is currently second in the FIA Formula 2 standings, only 11 points behind the current championship leader, with wins in the feature races at Melbourne and Imola showcasing his talent.

This will be Hadjar’s third appearance in F1, having featured twice in 2023 with AlphaTauri (now known as RB) in Free Practice One at the Mexico City Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hadjar will have a busy weekend with his FP1 duties for Red Bull and his F2 duties with Campos Racing. The 19-year old will be looking show off his skills alongside some of his F2 rivals in the first practice session at Silverstone.

Oliver Bearman will also feature in the session following announcement earlier today that he would be joining the F1 grid in 2025 after signing with Haas on a multi-year contract.

Franco Colapinto will also get the opportunity to drive in FP1 with Williams while Alpine reserve driver Jack Doohan will replace Pierre Gasly as he looks impress the French outfit who are still to name their full driver line-up for next year.

With Hadjar replacing Perez in FP1, Sergio Perez will therefore be hoping to improve on his recent poor form as Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has hinted at some frustration with his recent results.

The Mexican recently signed a multi-year contract extension with Red Bull but if he doesn’t succeed in turning around his fortunes over the summer, the Milton Keynes-based outfit might reconsider its choice.
