Netflix has released a trailer for its six-part F1 miniseries titled “Senna” which will cover the life of F1 legend Ayrton Senna.
Netflix has released a trailer for a brand-new F1 miniseries based on the life of three-time world champion Ayrton Senna as his unfortunate demise gets commemorated this week.
Wednesday will mark thirty years since Senna’s tragic incident, which happened as he was leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix and barely a day after Roland Ratzenberger lost his life in an accident at Imola.
It was one of the most horrific weekends in Formula 1 history according to several current and former paddock members who have given accounts of the tragic incident.
The storyline hinges on Senna’s entry into the Formula Ford series upon arriving in Britain as well as his ascent to Formula 1 stardom to become one of the most iconic figures in the history of the sport.
He claimed three world titles between 1988 and 1991; however, he lost the championship to teammate and formidable rival Alain Prost after a controversial finish in 1989.
In the trailer, Senna is seen racing in the 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix, where he triumphed for the first time on home soil despite having a car that got stuck in gear in the last few laps as it started to rain. It also features memories of his go-kart days, his unexpected second-place finish in the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, and Lotus’s historic victory in Portugal the following year.
Gabriel Leone stars as Ayrton Senna alongside an intriguing cast that includes Christian Malheiros, Alice Wegmann, and Camila Márdila. Besides recapping Senna’s career highlights, the documentary also uncovers his personal relationships and life.
Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and the United Kingdom are among the countries where filming takes place with the different locations accurately depict Senna’s life and career at different stages.
The series is produced in collaboration with Senna’s family and their business, Senna Brands, which utilizes Senna’s identity to generate revenue for the Ayrton Senna Institute. The institute was established by Senna’s sister Viviane to offer young Brazilians opportunities to grow.
The Netflix series is scheduled for release later in the year, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Senna’s tragic demise at Imola. The anniversary is celebrated at the Imola Autodrome through cultural presentations, walks, and moments of silence.
Previously, Senna was the subject of a 2010 movie bearing the same name that chronicled the story of his life by means of real footage.
