The NASCAR Xfinity Series race has been delayed once more due to heavy rain, and the United Rentals 300 will now start one hour after the Daytona 500 on Monday afternoon.
NASCAR has once again adjusted its program for Daytona International Speedway in light of the heavy rain on Monday morning. The Xfinity Series race will now take place on Monday at 9 p.m. ET after the Cup Series’ Daytona 500.
Rain on both the Saturday and Sunday dates slated for the United Rentals 300 Xfinity race and the Daytona 500 Cup race forced the events to be rescheduled to Monday.
The reschedule indicated that the Xfinity race would start the day at 11 a.m., with the Cup race following at 4. FOX will provide live coverage of the Cup race.
The Xfinity Series teams had already arrived at the venue on Monday morning and had expected to race and have the chance to leave before the Daytona 500 began. For all those participating in the sport, it’s an exceptionally long day to cap off an exceptionally long weekend.
NASCAR managed to squeeze in an Xfinity Series qualifying session on Saturday despite it raining for the greater part of the day. Richard Childress Racing’s Jesse Love and Austin Hill secured front row starting positions, with Love claiming the pole position.
Hill is the defending winner of the Xfinity season opener at Daytona, having won four races with RCR in the previous season. Love took the pole with a time of 49.702 (181.079 mph), narrowly edging Hill’s time of 49.705 seconds (181.068 mph) in qualifying.
Returning to the series full-time, veteran AJ Allmendinger will start third, followed by Parker Kligerman in fourth place while Shane van Gisbergen starts fifth.
