Red Bull has launched an internal investigation against team principal Christian Horner based on claims of “inappropriate behaviour” made by an employee.
Red Bull GmbH, the parent company of the racing team, has opened an internal investigation against Christian Horner which stems from allegations of “inappropriate behavior” made by another Red Bull Racing staff member.
Horner has strongly denied any kind of misconduct regarding allegations of what the Dutch publication De Telegraaf referred to as “inappropriate behavior.”
The energy drink company highlighted that it was taking the allegations seriously and indicated that an independent lawyer had been hired to look into the accusations. However, they did not detail the nature of the allegations after issuing a statement on Monday.
“After being made aware of certain recent allegations, the company launched an independent investigation,” Red Bull stated.
“This process, which is already under way, is being carried out by an external specialist barrister.
“The company takes these matters extremely seriously and the investigation will be completed as soon as practically possible. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
According to Sky Sports, Horner will continue to serve as the team’s principal and in his concurrent capacity as Red Bull’s chief executive while the investigation is ongoing. Additionally, it is not anticipated that the inquiry will impede Red Bull’s upcoming February 15 launch of their 2024 F1 contender, the RB20.
Over the past 20 years, Horner has been in charge of Red Bull Racing team since the organization’s 2005 F1 entry. Under his direction, the team has won seven drivers’ championships and six constructors’ championships.
The 50-year-old received a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) title in the New Year’s Honours list, which came after the Milton Keynes-based team’s successful 2023 campaign.
Red Bull dominated the 2023 season after winning 21 of the 22 races, helping Max Verstappen win the Formula One World season for a record third time.
