Tragic crash at the Miami F1 track claims the life of a driver

The Miami F1 track at Hard Rock Stadium was the scene of a tragic car accident on Thursday that claimed the life of a man whose car went over a barrier and off a flyover.

The incident occurred on the southbound off-ramp of the Florida Turnpike that goes onto Northwest 199th Street and according to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver died after being thrown off a grey Dodge coupe at around 1:45 p.m. local time.

The driver was driving down the freeway that goes over a part of the circuit when the car struck the bridge’s wall, launched itself over the barrier and came to rest on the Miami F1 track at Turn 16, which is the left-hander that leads to the back straight.

The male driver was declared dead at the crash scene by the Fire Rescue team after being thrown from the car that crashed upside down at Turn 16 of the Formula 1 track. The cause of the crash is currently being looked into.

Formula 1 has been held at the Miami International Autodrome from 2022 after signing a 10-year deal. The event takes part on a street track built around Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the Miami Dolphins American football team.

Given that Formula 1 is still seeing a rapid surge in popularity in the country, this was the second US-based grand prix introduced to the calendar, following the United States Grand Prix at Austin’s Circuit of The Americas, which was followed by the Las Vegas Grand Prix last season.

At the moment, only one driver has won at the Miami F1 track: Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. He did it last season and the season before on his way to winning the world championship over the two seasons.
