FIA confirms Pirelli as official tyre partner through 2027

Pirelli will remain the exclusive tyre supplier to Formula 1 through at least 2027.

Pirelli has been confirmed as Formula 1’s official Tyre Partner and the sole supplier of tyres for the FIA Formula 1 World Championship to the end of 2027, with an option for an extra year contract extension.

The FIA confirmed on Tuesday that Pirelli will continue to supply tyres in F1, F2, and F3 for a further three years, from 2025 to 2027. This comes as Bridgestone’s bid to enter the series with its tyres was previously mentioned.

The Formula 1 Commercial Rights Holder proposed the agreement, which also contains an option year for 2028.

The Italian tyre manufacturer, which has supplied F1 with tires since 2011, is currently under a contract with the racing series that runs through the 2024 campaign.

According to reports, Bridgestone had joined Pirelli in the battle for the exclusive contract, and the two tyre suppliers were vying for the newly established contract.

Eventually, FIA which is the organization that governs the sport, has officially announced that the Milan-based tyre maker will continue to provide tyres for the Formula One series through at least 2027 following the signing of a new deal.

Following the announcement, Pirelli will have served as the only tyre supplier to Formula 1 for 18 seasons by the end of the renewed contract (including any potential extensions).

During that time, Pirelli has successfully met a variety of technical and sporting challenges, including the introduction of hybrid power units in 2014, the introduction of wider tyres in 2017, and the introduction of the current 18-inch tyres starting in 2022.

As Formula 1 strives to be Net Zero Carbon by 2030, Pirelli has also assumed a leadership position in the research and development of environmentally friendly tyre solutions.

Pirelli also supports the environmental sustainability goals set by Formula 1. All of Pirelli’s Formula One tyres will be FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) starting in 2024. This certification attests to the fact that the plantations used to make the tyres’ forest-based parts are managed in a way that protects biodiversity, improves the lives of local communities and workers, and ensures economic sustainability.

“Since returning to the sport in 2011 Pirelli has been an invaluable partner, supporting Formula 1 through new generations of technology and technical regulations and delivering tyres to enable fantastic racing for our fans,” F1 CEO and Preseident Stefano Domenicali said.

“The company’s commitment to quality, innovation and their deep knowledge of our sport will be vital in the coming years as we approach our new regulations in 2026.

“The work Pirelli is focused on relating to sustainability, proven by the FSC certification, will ensure we continue to work together towards our shared Net Zero 2030 goal.

“I would also like to commend Bridgestone for their impressive proposal and engagement throughout the process,” Domenicali added. “They have a proud legacy in our sport and I would like to thank them for their highly professional and passionate engagement with us.”

Pirelli began supplying F1 with tyres since the inaugural races in 1950 and has been the sole provider of tires to the series since 2011. Meanwhile, Bridgestone was the series’ tyre supplier from 2007-10. Prior to that was a a six-year run where both Bridgestone and Michelin were actively supplying tyres to the series.

“We’re delighted to extend or presence in Formula 1 and its other related championships,” Pirelli Executive Vice President and CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera said. “Pirelli was there when Formula 1 was born in 1950, and with this latest renewal, the firm will now be a protagonist throughout nearly two decades of the modern Formula 1 era.

“Thanks to the impetus from Liberty Media and the support of the FIA, the sport is enjoying an extraordinary period of growth both in terms of audience and global expansion, increasing its following among younger generations as well.

“Innovation and technology are locked into Pirelli’s DNA, and Formula 1 constitutes the ultimate open air laboratory to not only try out and test new technical solutions, but also to accelerate fresh research, development, and production processes in making tyres.

“I would also like to thank everyone at Pirelli for their passionate commitment and the quality of their work over the years, which will continue as we extend this partnership together.

“Our commitment to sustainability is equally strong, as proved by the FSC certification that will be introduced to our F1 tyres from next year.

“Being at the forefront of motorsport’s pinnacle until at least 2027 adds another important value dimension to our company.”
