It has been confirmed that Nyck de Vries will have his first chance to drive after being fired from F1.
Later this month, Nyck de Vries will take the wheel of a race car once more for his first stint since being fired from Formula 1.
In a demonstration on August 12–13 at JACK’s Racing Day, which bills itself as Europe’s largest mixed car, motorcycle and karting event, De Vries will be running an MP Motorsport Formula 2 car. The event is at his hometown in Assen.
De Vries, a former F2 and Formula E champion, made a good impression while driving for Williams last year and was offered a full-time F1 seat this year by AlphaTauri.
De Vries impressed on his maiden Formula 1 race with Williams in Monza last year, and he began the 2023 Formula One season with AlphaTauri, racing alongside Yuki Tsunoda.
But after just 10 Grands Prix, Red Bull decided to replace him with Daniel Ricciardo at their sister team, cutting his career short. It was confirmed shortly after the British Grand Prix that Daniel Ricciardo has taken the place of the Dutchman with immediate effect.
De Vries announced that he would avoid using social media after his exit from racing so that he could unwind, but he would nevertheless be back in action at JACK’s Racing Day.
“JACK’s Racing Day is one of the most diverse and accessible racing events in Europe,” said the Formula 2 and Formula E champion. “It’s great to see that our sport is so alive in the Netherlands.
“I look forward to seeing everyone in Assen!”
Hilde van Dam, the event organiser, said: “Our event is known for making the international racing world accessible where we have already welcomed many a top driver to Assen.
“The fact that we managed to secure a top Dutch driver this year is extra special. Like the many tens of thousands of fans, we are looking forward to a wonderful race weekend.”
