Iker Lecuona will fill in for the injured Alex Rins in the upcoming MotoGP race at Silverstone as Rins is still unable to ride due to the injury he sustained at Mugello.
HRC WorldSBK rider Iker Lecuona is scheduled to participate in his third MotoGP race of the year in the British Grand Prix as a LCR Honda rider. Lecuona also ran in this season’s Spanish and Dutch Grand Prix races as a stand-in for Marc Marquez and Joan Mir.
Alex Rins is continuing his recovery at home after suffering injuries to his fibula and tibia in the crash at Mugello’s Sprint.
Rins is executing a sound daily schedule to be prepared to go on the bike when the time comes while being surrounded by the greatest professionals in the field.
Lecuona has been recalled once more to compete at Silverstone as Rins remains out. Lecuona will have to skip the Suzuka 8-Hour Race as a result of his promotion to MotoGP, which is taking place the same weekend.
“I wish Alex a speedy recovery; I know how difficult these situations are,” Lecuona said after it was announced that he would race at Silverstone.
“In the meantime, I’m happy to jump on the bike, as I want to do my best and help the team. Besides, I like Silverstone’s layout, and we can have fun. I want to thank the Honda family and LCR for the opportunity.”
According to reports, Stefan Bradl was another candidate to step in at Silverstone but Honda picked Lecuona for reasons unknown.
Yamaha has reportedly offered Rins a contract for the 2024 season, according to LCR Honda team manager Lucio Cecchinello.
Lecuona will most likely replace Rins in the LCR Honda squad for the 2024 season as Rins is considering switching to Yamaha for the upcoming campaign.
